wild rover: the pictorial version

here it is:

bizarre - couldn't for the life of me get it to load in the previous post

John - yeah, I know it's out of focus, just felt like telling the story.

It's amazing how the combination of trailers, Triumphs, P76s and P6's (or parts thereof) appears to be so fraught. History repeats itself again. and again.

The P6 is a great thing, to be sure. Any car that has grease nipples on the door hinges must be a good thing. It means that the engineers had the ascendancy over the accountants, which is also a good thing. In fact, that situation rates as a Good Thing.

Hullo, off the meds again at last. Well done you.

I only wish I had inherited or acquired some manual dexterity (the well known Mexican) so I could have fixed it up. Similarly with the subsequent David's-first-car-project, a Mr 2 Triumph 2000 in fab cond bodywise but with an aerated block. If I'd done the sensible thing and just bought an exchange 2nd hand donk from the Brit car wreckers in Punchbowl that I used to get stuff from, we would have been in business. But no, stupid had to acquire another whole car and attempt to mate bits. It was a Mk 2 that turned out to have a Mk1 motor which I didn;t recognise until too late. And everything was different.

BTW, take a lok under any P6 and you'll be hard-pressed to find a full chassis. P5 yes, P6 no, as I recall.
But they did have horizontally mounted front coils (when the car was vertical) and a DeDion rear end, so all was good. And you could take the fenders off if the mood so took you.

K, you know I'd forgotten about the earlier Tasman/Tirumph/trailer incident when I wrote the piece. Yes, history always repeats, etc. At for those who don't learn their lessons.

steep downhill roads and heavy cars on trailers... how could you forget...

the hangover didn't help, either. god knows what shape I would have been in if I'd taken up derf's mate's invitation...a slab and two bots of creme de menthe between 2???

and I now just remember that selfsame bombala derfmate also bought the trump that was going to be david's: I had it advtersied and got this very strange call - certainly an expression of interest, but it was only afterwards I realised who it was. but he came good with double what I was asking (I wonder where he got the money?) and took the car and the obligatory garage-full of spares.
