Well, regrettably, I imagine we'll have to. Take what? Well, it's started - the tearing down of Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard. You can expect it from the insufferably we are always right right of the blogosphere, and you can expect it from (insert suitable expletive here) Abbott and co, but everyone's getting in on the act and that's before the government's highly paid mouthpieces in the mainstream media get a roll on (that'll be tomorrow).
Whatever happened to the Australian fair go? Look, colour me hopelessly naive, I really don't give a rat's arse. But to me this simply illustrates the coarsening of our culture that, for want of a better scapegoat, I will attribute to Howard. Why the hell not, he's responsible for everything else that's wrong with the place.
The balance in this country has gone. Buried, combusted, exploded, taken out the back and shot, consigned to Nauru, belted up behind the bike sheds after school, in the remand cells, I dunno. The place just doesn't seem to work like it did any more.
Do the rules not apply to politicians? Maybe not. Did they ever? Dunno. Am I making sense? Regrettably no, but this is just another amateur blog amongst millions. Just had to have a rant. Now I know how offspring number one feels, at least he's honest when he's having a rant.
Now, that feels better.
BTW, Gillard for PM. One day.

My advice: celebrate it! A viable and popular Leader of The Opposition is a nightmare scenario for the Liberals. Of course they’ll try to undermine Rudd — the ‘best defence is a good offence’ thinking — and they’ll fail.
They’ll fail because it’s Howard’s policies that are widely divisive, not Rudd’s. And because Rudd will counter the ‘L Plate’ label with reminders of Howard’s CV and record 22% interest rate as Federal Treasurer.
You mentioned in one post some misgivings about Rudd’s religious leanings. Bush’s prayer meetings in The White House are definite cause for alarm! Rudd’s personal faith seems to me a foundation for his sense of social justice; I’m confident that his approach to his Office will be firmly secular. As PM, he won’t be saying “The New Zealanders are part of an axis of evil. We must liberate their sheep. God bless Australia!”
Oppositions don’t win elections; governments lose them. But only where there’s a viable opposition. 4 December 2006 marked the beginning of the end for the Howard Government.
In my book, that’s cause for celebration!
Well al cad, your positive vibes are gratefully received, checked, inventoried and displayed in a prominent place pour encourager les autres. You've evidently read some back posts so, apart from telling us that you have far too much time on your hands, you'll also know that V V B waxes and wanes like a surfboard on a weather vane. Heh. Anyway, your comments are a welcome antidote to the wall-to-wall loathing that reading the comments from all those who would chop Kev'n'Julia down, before they've even hit their stride brings on.
FWIW, I think Gillard puts her arguments together really well. Rudd has the potential to do so too if he is a relentless self-improver, realises he needs to tailor his delivery to the audience at the time (Beazer never figured this out, or couldn't pull it off) and then does so.
All right, I am reenergised. Bring it on. I wish to see a frightened rodent! Actually, a cornered rat will be a very unedifying sight. That will be helpful to the forces of goodness (ie us)as it will not be a good look.
Thanks for that.
I caught an interesting doco on SBS (State of the Union, 21/11/06) which highlighted research that concludes that when people with broadly similar views group together, there’s a tendency for each member’s views to become more extreme. This seems borne out by online behaviour such ‘flaming’, hostile mobbing of sites and the immediate Rudd/Gillard-bashing you mention.
Well done for keeping The Chateaux above all that.
It's a tidy chateau, al cad. I just have tokeep it pointing in more or less the same direction...
