Twice within the last month one side of my glasses has sprung apart, the lens dropped out and the tiny weeny screw....
In both cases we found it. Not bad for a pair of geriatrics who actually need glasses to see...quite big things, actually.
I'd meant to get some Loctite after the first incident. I used to routinely pull apart each new pair of glasses and apply a drop to each screw thread to prevent such occurrences. The little bottle got thrown out in our move to sunny - well actually, currently not so sunny - Capricornia. I must hie me to the local 'ardware shop fifthwith.
Meanwhile, as I age into grumpy old man conservatism, I start rethinking a lifelong objection to the death penalty. On the other hand, such criminals should be prevented from breeding...

Yes yes re hoons and innocent Dads, also kill people who fling kids off bridges (one in court in Melb right now). OTOH about 30 people a week are hung in China so it's no deterrent at all.
the Kafka-esque element of the spectacle screw-loose is that without the specs on, one cannot see well enough to replace the screw if it isn't lost.
I put mine down on the keyboard and the screw fell under the keys (without me noticing until a key jammed).
Opticians sell a kit of tiny screwdriver and spare screws, and i don't know why they don't offer it at pickup time. $300 frames should not fail of course.
The do-it-yerselfer in me prefers to fiddle with loctite, which I can use on the car and elswehere, than get upsold a seemingly unnecessary repair kit. Also, we have about 239,000 sets of tiny screwdrivers...
I have just re-read post no 1. Time to review how well we met the self-imposed KPIs, I think. Not much music or cars lately.
Thank you for the 'loctite', I've never heard of it but will have a look since I also have a zillion tiny screwdrivers. I wrote a post once about thinking I'd had a stroke but it was only the lens dropping out of the frame into the curry I was cooking.
And another thing, after buying very expensive Christian Dior frames I found out that they use exclusive screws so you can't replace with any non designer muck.
I discover you can now get LOctite in little sachets for $1.50, containing more than you will need for glasses screws. I did mine yesterday but I must have had the DTs or something as it didn't go quite according to Hoyle. You need three hands (I have a doover with a maginfying glass on an arm, so I don't need to hold that), and after yesterday's experience I'd suggest using tweezers to dunk the screw thread in the loctite before dropping it back into its hole and tightening. Be aware also that loctite will seep through paper do empty the sachet onto some waste cardboard or similar.
